Science and Industry

One of the main purposes of computer networking is to provide access from any workstation to centrally stored data, applications and other resources. This data may have any of a number of sources, from CD/DVD applications to standard Windows Office or SAP software, to online databases accessed over the Internet or through URL lists, to name just a few. All of it needs to be made available on end-user workstations. A further requirement is to present user-specific portals - individualized views of the published applications or other content - with an intuitive user interface.

These are the very capabilities that NetMan specializes in. NetMan's desktop management system presents programs, information, data and URLs wherever they are permitted, needed and sought. Access to these resources is enabled through the components already familiar to end users in their own environment, whether in the Windows Start menu and desktop, or in a browser.

NetMan is ideally suited for operation in terminal server environments. In particular, the comprehensive solution from NetMan is perfect for systems in which applications and information must be accessible regardless of client operating system, or are used narrow-band systems such as ISDN, Mode1, or GSM. You no longer need to take into account the performance capabilities or operating system type on the end user's device. Applications execute automatically on the terminal server, and the question of which OS is running on the user terminal - whether Windows, Macintosh or Unix - is irrelevant.

NetMan was originally developed as a management software suite for the special requirements of CD-based databases, and thus has all the capabilities essential for this particular type of content management. One of the main differences between CD-based and standard applications is that the latter do not generally require accessibility to external data media. CD-ROM based applications, however, require not only software deployment and license management features (both also integrated in NetMan), but also a media management solution that can deliver access to application CDs when a program is launched. This direct support for CD/DVD-based applications is a unique feature in NetMan. It is compatible with all established CD-ROM server systems and integrates specific support for the Virtual CD program, another product from H+H Software. Furthermore, NetMan can check system requirements when an application is called and, depending on your settings, either implement required changes or prevent the launch.
